[ID: illustration of a black woman in the kitchen stirring something in a bowl as a child next to them holds a spoon and looks up at them, smiling as they tuck under her arm. Around the woman are four ghostly figures of older women—one wrapped in a shawl and smiling gently, one with short natural hair and earrings putting a hand on her shoulder, one in a floral shirt raising a hand and speaking, and one in an edwardian dress and hairstyle resting her chin in her hand, thinking. They are in a home kitchen, with a photo of the child and one of the grandmothers taped to the back cabinets, and with a cutting board and various vegetable scraps on the counter. End ID]

“Labours of Love”
Summer Holmestice 2021 for “Ghostbees”
After my giftee ( @ghostbees ) mentioned "scrapbooking" and "English paper piecing" I went down a rabbithole of research and learnt about this wonderful quilting technique.
From the EQS website: "English Paper Piecing is a method of quilting that involves using a paper shape, most commonly a hexagon, to add stability to the quilt. The quilt is hand stitched with pieces of fabric cut a ¼ inch bigger than the paper shape. The fabric is basted to the paper shapes before the shapes are sewn together. Once the quilt top is completed the papers are removed." The technique dates from 1770s and was popular during the early 1800s in the UK, then in the mid 19th century in the US and it made a comeback during the Great Depression of the 1930s, when the pattern was called in the sewing magazines "Grandma's Flower Garden", but before that it was simply known as hexagonal pattern or (you guessed it) honeycomb pattern. The paper used for these quilts were usually recycled from newspapers or scrapped letters, and the fabric used to come from old garments that had seen better days, and since a lot of the times the paper was simply left in these quilts are marvelous time capsules that contain a wealth of information about the person who made them and their environment. I encourage you to look up English paper piecing (EPP) quilts from the early Victorian decades, they're fascinating!
So this little series of illustrations shows Watson dealing with Holmes still indulging in scrapbooking, and how the doctor picks up the discarded pieces and their old 221B era clothes to make something entirely new and uniquely theirs.
1. I keep seeing lovely examples of Victorian silk braces with floral embroidery and I couldn’t resist giving the boys some fancy ones. Also I know that a bright pink and blue shirt is probably not too historically accurate 1910s but screw it, trans flag shirt colours!
2. I both hate and love drawing furniture. Footstools/ottomans are cute, though.
3. “My dear fellow, if you didn’t spend all morning in bed instead of reading the newspaper as soon it arrives all of this could be avoided.” Also Holmes is wearing a silk piano shawl because what are gender norms?
4. Holmes not only uses newspaper clippings for scrapbooking, but per Ghostbees’ suggestion I looked briefly into the Victorian hobby of pressing and collecting seaweed and I think it would be a fantastic subject for Holmes to branch out to (especially if there’s any poisonous types).
5. Old dressing gowns and blankets that have seen better days. The moths got ahold of them but I’m pretty sure the constant chemical experiments back at 221B claimed more than one victim.
6. I got a bit carried away with the ink and gouache here. But it was fascinating to see the first published patterns in magazines making their appearance, especially in publications aimed at women that contained a wide range of home-related subjects.
7. Someone in the Dreamwidth website pointed out that both Holmes and Watson are working on beehives and that warmed my heart. One interesting bit about EPP is that the paper can be left inside the quilt, so historians have been able to gather very detailed information about the person who crafted these pieces and their life.
8. Oh god so many hexagons. Here’s an example of one of those magazines with patterns and instructions.
9. I had too much fun giving them embroidered slippers. It’s a shame I overdid the watercolours and turned out quite muddy, but I would love to draw their clothes in more detail in the future.
10. Smooch! (Also the paisley trim is my favourite part)
11. Initially I wanted this story to end in a picnic at Beachy Head, until I was told that quilts aren’t picnic blankets and are more appropriate for domestic use only. You still get to see some of the cliffs at least!
12. Another accidental discovery during my research: pickle and marmalade jars! I could draw a hundred of them and not get tired. That little spoon! Ugh!
13. I will never not cry about these two old fools in love.
14. Cross stitching and lettering isn’t my forte, nor is Watson’s, but I saw several quilts had names sewn into one panel, almost like a painter signing their canvas, or dedicating the piece to a loved one. So you know I had to add this little detail, plus some green carnations for extra queerness, a forget-me-not flower and a plump bee because I have to be extra.
Looking back this is one of the things I’m the most proud of that I have made this year, or even longer. I work digitally for my job and I miss the feel of traditional materials, so this was a project that let me flex those watercolour muscles and try gouache for the first time. All while drawing incredibly indulgent things, so thank you Basil for giving me an excuse to have some fun.

The embroidery has a dark background, red roses and green ornament resembling leaves. The woman’s waist is tied by a wide red belt with three horizontal green lines. She wears a red skirt and a dark plahta - a piece of clothing made from harder fabric that goes above the skirt and is somewhat similar to an apron, it is usually worn on holidays.
The second image is a postcard’s title page with said illustration. In the top left corner “2020-2021” is written. On the bottom there is a double inscription that reads “Happy Holidays!” in English and “Щасливих свят” in Ukrainian. The English inscription is in Nexa Demo font and is smaller then the second one. The Ukrainian inscription is in Apostol TYGRA Regular font.
The third and final picture is a postcard’s page with poetry in Ukrainian and an English translation. The Ukrainian phrases are in Apostol TYGRA Regular with every letter “i” being in Ancient Kyiv Normal font and the English phrases are in Nexa Demo.
The English translation reads:
Until the sun is shining from above, The birds are chirping and the flowers are blooming, We wish you to go through life with determination, And have sincere joy from the days to come!
Let the happiness to always guide you, Human respect and honour to stroll nearby, Your dreams and work to always Be crowned with recognition!
Love, (your name)
The poetry in Ukrainian reads:
До поки сонце світить з висоти, Щебечуть птахи, зацвітають квіти, Ми Вам життям бажаєм твердо йти, І днем грядущим від душі радіти!
Хай щастя завжди супроводить Вас, Людська повага й шана не минають, А Вашу мрію й працю повсякчас Лиш визнання вінчають!
З любов’ю, (Ваше ім’я)

So I remembered I had access to the transparent template of the polaroid frame used for the pics that you take with Mirphy's old camera, and I wanted to both put that to good use and see how my OCs might look in as close to the game's original style as I could manage. I'm really proud of how these came out! Only thing I woulda done differently is not lock the transparency when doing the noise-then-blur thing with Cosmos, but considering they were the first one done I clearly took that as a learning experience going forward XD Also there's a good year range between all of these in-universe, the earliest being Cosmos taking a proto-selfie just fresh from getting out of the Habitat, and the latest being Teddy where it's taken after he's out as a guy and started binding. Not before he picked his current name though, hence the corrective strips and rewrite hehe.

[Image Description: A digital illustration of nine polaroid photographs sitting on a pale yellow table. Each polaroid is displayed individually as separate images, each featuring one of OP’s Smile For Me OCs.
The first polaroid: Cosmos Stargazer, OP’s take on the protagonist of Smile For me. They are an androgynous teen with reddish-brown skin, pink and green hair resembling a stargazer lily, and green eyes. They are wearing a pink and green face mask, pulled down around their chin to reveal their smiling face, with a small tooth gap and a missing tooth visible in their mouth. They are also wearing a light blue jacket with the sleeves rolled up and a purple shirt with pale pink stars. The photo is fairly close-in as though taken at a selfie angle. The background is a gradient of red and dark red. Text: “Cosmos Stargazer (me!!)”
The second polaroid: Holly Stargazer, Cosmos’s sister. She is a young woman with reddish-brown skin, green hair held in a ponytail with red hair decorations resembling holly leaves and berries, and green eyes. She is wearing a green sweater with pink accents, a pink scarf, and a pink and green shirt. She is sitting in a green and pink chair and posing with her arms crossed, one holding a green and pink pen. The background is a wall with yellow and green wavy wallpaper, a picture frame containing an unknown image to the left of Holly’s head. Text: “Holly Stargazer - best sis”
The third polaroid: Rosalyn Stargazer, OP’s take on the florist that is the protagonist’s parent. She is a middle-aged woman with reddish-brown skin and red hair in a bun shaped like a rose. She is wearing a red shirt with a pink floral pattern and a lime green shawl overtop. She has her eyes closed in an open-mouthed smile. In her hands is a brown flower pot, holding a large six-petaled pink flower. Behind her are large containers holding many multicolored six-petaled flowers. Text: “Mom - Rosalyn Stargazer”
The fourth polaroid: Jaymee Boyd. She is a young woman with light skin, long purple hair in a ponytail, and aqua green eyes behind round glasses. She is wearing a blue hoodie with a lavender directional pad graphic on the front. She is holding an original model Game Boy in her hands, playing a game and glaring down at it with a concentrated determination. The background features a grey wall and a slightly greenish sky with cloud cover. Text: “Jaymee Boyd”
The fifth polaroid: Kanti Bora, an OC meant to be Kamal Bora’s twin sister. She obviously has a strong resemblance to Kamal, but with short dark hair with red-dyed bangs. She is wearing a blue jacket, a maroon choker collar, a grey tshirt, black fingerless gloves, green cargo pants, a maroon belt with a gold buckle, and a silver chain attached to her belt loop. She is waving at the camera, one hand on her hip, her eyes closed and smiling wide. There is a short brick wall behind her, as well as a tree and a sunset sky. Text: “Kanti Bora”
The sixth polaroid: Dr. Ava Glass, an OC who resembles Dr. Boris Habit by matter of sheer (in-universe) coincidence. She is a tall woman with reddish-pink skin, pink eyes, purple lipstick, and long violet hair in a ponytail. She is wearing a teal newsboy-style cap with a blue brim and a lily-of-the-valley decoration, a teal peacoat with a pink collar and cuffs, a pink turtleneck sweater, and red-violet gloves. She has a hand up in a pensive manner, and looking to the right with concern. Parts of her are transparent, with a bright pink light where her eye would be in the transparent bits. The background is a gradient of purple and pink. Text: “Ava Glass”
The seventh polaroid: Ashish “Ash” Bora, an OC meant to be Kamal Bora’s youngest brother. He somewhat resembles Kamal with long dark hair in a ponytail and a goatee beard. He is wearing a grey beanie hat, a red hooded jacket with white trim and hood, and a blue tshirt over a grey button-up. He is smiling and has both hands pointing outward. Behind him is a pale yellow wall, a bookshelf with multicolored books arranged on them, and a Star Wars poster featuring the character Darth Vader that is partially obscured by Ash’s head. Text: “Ashish Bora”
The eighth polaroid: Marcy Coltraine, Ash’s wife. She is a fat woman with freckled light skin, pale blue eyes behind green square glasses, and blonde hair in an updo with a lime green hair clasp and a green barette pinning back her bangs. She is wearing a green turtleneck shirt and a lighter green short sleeved sweater with lime green trim. She is sticking her pale blue tongue out and holding up her hand in a peace sign. The background behind her is a gradient of pink, purple, and blue. Text: “Marcy Coltraine”
The ninth and final polaroid: Theodore “Teddy” Shelley, Cosmos’s college roommate and eventual partner. He is a young man with blue skin, golden freckles, and shoulder-length beige-grey hair. He is wearing a light blue button-up with the sleeves rolled up, and a blue and yellow sweater vest. He has one hand behind his head and is smiling nervously. The background features a green and blue wall with a narrow yellow stripe painted horizontally across the middle. Part of the text on the polaroid frame is covered by white corrective strips, indicating something else was there before it was replaced. Text: “Theodore Shelley”

[Image description: Four pictures of the same illustration of Nott, Beau, and Jester, from Critical Role showing off their new tattoos, the first being the full iage and the rest being closeups of the tattoos themselves. Nott is a goblin with braided hair, a yellow dress, and an elaborate aquamarine face tattoo that surrounds her eyes an forehead with a geometric floral design. She also has a image of a broken chain with the words ‘Chaos Crew’ on her arm, which she’s extending sideways so it goes under Beau’s arm and brushes against Jester’s. Beau is a naked human woman with an undercut and a green tattoo of a All Seeing Eye surrounded by filigree. She’s facing away fro the viewer, holding her hair away from the back of her neck to show the filigree, which extends to her crown, and holding her other arm back at an awkward angle to chow a matching ‘Chaos Crew’ tattoo. Jester is a blue tiefling wearing Beau’s monk vestiges as a tube top. She’s leaning heavily against Beau’s back, one arm flexing to show off her biceps, and the other showing off her ‘Chaos Crew’ tattoo. Tales of Sirena: Chapter 1
~~~I~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Warnings: Mentions of rape
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a hot afternoon on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
A group of high school students were preparing for their junior/senior prom which for some reason was held in Hawaii instead of California, where their school actually was.
“God fucking dammit!” a female screamed as she ran a brush through her hair, “It’s so fucking humid!”
“That’s how Hawaii is, Kerstin,” a ravenette next to her growled as she tied her hair into a low ponytail to keep it out of the way, “It’s retarded that prom is here, but whatever!”
The one currently cussing up a storm over her hair was Kerstin Vera and the taller ravenette was Rhamina Miyu.
Both Filipino teens were not happy whether it be the weather or- No, it was definitely the weather.
For Kerstin it was the humidity which was interfering with her hair and for Rhamina it was just the warm temperature which was pushing her over the edge.
“Why the hell did I even decide to come?!” Kerstin asked as she attempted to style her hair.
“The ticket was over one hundred and fifty dollars,” the other replied as she began to do her eyeshadow, “That’s why.”
“Fuck!”
At around 6:30 in the evening the two girls left the house of Rhamina’s aunt and dropped off their things at a hotel they had booked for the night before going to the venue for their prom.
It was at an air and space museum close to the beach. The theme was a ‘Night of Magic’ and the museum was decorated in a series of golds and blues with glitter everywhere, and did not match the girls at all.
Kerstin wore a long, elegant, pink dress with silver sequins decorating the torso; various pieces of silver jewelry; and had dark pink wedges. Her makeup was done simply with light pink eyeshadow to match her dress, black mascara, and a dark red lip gloss. Her brown-black, hair was was done half up half down with a slight curl at the ends. Kerstin also had squared acrylic nails that faded from a pinky-nude color to white and were about an inch long.
Rhamina wore a strapless, black dress that ended about four inches above her ankles with red floral patterns. The top portion consisted of a black corset that laced up at the front of the dress and she also wore simple, black heels with a black cover up which had sleeves that ended just past her elbows. Her straight, black hair was left down to reach her upper thighs and her makeup consisted of a dark eye look filled with different shades of red as well as black, winged liner, and mascara. Rhamina’s nails were left short, but were painted in a shimmery red polish with holographic glitter covering the nails on her ring fingers.
As soon as the girls checked in they immediately found and joined their group which consisted of a red-headed senior named Hannah, her boyfriend Jalynn who was a sophomore, a senior with wavy brown hair named Sophie, and a Mexican junior with green eyes and short brown hair styled into a bob named Sam.
“Fuck this is boring!” Kerstin sighed after returning to the table where Rhamina sat with Jalynn and Sam who were both either drinking or eating sweets offered at the buffet line, “Let’s go gamble!”
“I’m down,” the ravenette said as she stood and grabbed her purse and trash, “Let’s find the blackjack table.”
“Ooo, I want to learn,” Hannah smiled before turning to her man, “Let’s go Jalynn.”
“Okay,” the blonde shrugged.
About ten minutes into playing blackjack Kerstin, Hannah, Sophie, Sam, and Jalynn stared at the ravenette wide eyed as she held her cards to herself with a smirk.
“What’s wrong guys?” she asked as she picked up one of the poker chips from her large stacks, “It’s your turn, Kerstin, hit or stay?”
“Mina, you’re scaring us,” Sophie stated as she looked over at the four stacks of ten the ravenette had compared to the dwindling number of chips Jalynn, Kerstin, and Hannah had left, “How are you doing this?”
“Doing what?” she asked with a glint in her eyes before it was time to reveal the cards.
“Black jack,” she sung as she lowered her cards to reveal a ten of hearts and a ace of spades.
“That’s literally the third time in a row!” Jalynn exclaimed as the five chips her bet were dragged over to her.
“Oh, it’s fine,” she giggled at the dealer setting her cards down and putting her heels back on, “I’m done playing for now.”
“Where are you going?” Kerstin asked.
“I need to pee.”
“Oh, me too!” Sophie chirped going to catch up with the ravenette.
On the way back from the restroom Rhamina stopped in front of a set of sheer curtains and a sign that read ‘Tarot Readings’.
“Mina?” Sophie asked noticing the female had halted.
“I kinda want to go in, you can head back if you want,” Rhamina chuckled as she turned to face the brunette.
“Okay, I’ll text you if we go anywhere different,” the senior said as she walked back to the blackjack table.
As the female entered the room the scent of incense drifted into her nose and she noticed a circle table in the center with a male sitting at one side of it.
“Hello,” he greeted with a small smirk, it wasn’t smug or anything but it added to his aura, “Here for a reading?”
“Yeah,” the ravenette chuckled nervously at having to talk to another person, especially an attractive male.
He was slender and elegant, seeming to be around twenty-years-old with golden brown skin, fluffy white hair, and enchanting violet eyes. He wore a poorly-fitted white shirt and brown and black slacks, both with gold decorative studs. Around his neck is a gold choker with simple curve carvings and a small blue crystal on a thick cord. He also wore a magenta shawl with gold tassels.
As the male spoke Rhamina could feel herself talking more comfortably but at the same time she could feel her heart race and her face heat up.
‘What the hell is wrong with me?’ she asked herself as she reached to pick four cards from the tarot deck in front of her after they were shuffled.
“The first card reveals a question lying within your soul,” the male explained before he flipped it, “Nine of cups, upright.”
“It is known as the ‘wish’ card of the tarot and usually brings your heart’s desire,” he said bringing his violet orbs to lock with brown irises speckled with golden flecks, “As for questions of the soul it’s telling me that you’re questioning something regarding relationships. Maybe, something about a crush of yours?”
“U-uh, actually I’ve never had feelings for anyone but yeah, I do wonder if I’ll be able to meet someone or find love,” she spoke barely able to hold the eye contact as he hummed before looking down to the next card.
“Now onto your past regarding this… The Hermit, reversed. Hmm, reversed he represents enforced isolation. He shows overanalysis and a tendency to intellectualize rather than allowing feelings to surface.”
“Guilty,” the ravenette chuckled as the took in the meaning and thought back to her life, not noticing the male’s gaze on her.
“Your present… The King of Pentacles, upright. He is a natural problem solver and symbolizes practicality, security, and commitment,” the male spoke in a smooth voice, his smirk becoming slightly more mischievous, “He is someone you can rely upon to do what he promises.”
The teen nodded and the male took that as a sign to continue.
“And for your future… The Devil, reversed.”
“Fuck me,” Rhamina whispered upon seeing the horned illustration on the card.
“Reversed, he represents obsession. An unwillingness or inability to break a bond that has no future, due to immaturity, desperation, or low-self esteem. He may indicate a struggle with addiction.”
“Fucking cards,” she sighed with a smile, “always calling me out.”
“Oh?” he asked with a raised brow, “Do you use tarot cards as well?”
“Not often but yeah,” Rhamina smiled, “I’m a practicing witch so I’m trying to at least get acquainted with them.”
“How interesting,” the male said leaning his chin on his hand, “You don’t see many of them these days.”
“Yeah, what about you?” she asked leaning back in her chair, “Do you do any magic other than the cards?”
“Indeed I do.”
“So, what’s your name?” Rhamina asked, “I’m Rhamina.”
“Asra.”
This sparked a whole conversation about magic between the two and at some point Rhamina’s memory began to blur.
When she woke up Rhamina was in bed, alone, in her hotel room still in her prom dress but her cover up was thrown onto the chair by the window and her hair was messed up.
She reached over to her phone to check the time but it was dead and not plugged into the charger.
With a sigh the ravenette plugged in her phone and looked to the digital clock on the nightstand to see it was one in the morning, three hours after prom had ended.
As she was about to walk over to change into pajamas the room door opened to reveal Kerstin, Sam, and Sophie.
“Hey, Mina, hope you don’t mind if these two crash with us,” Kerstin said gesturing at the two other brunettes.
“Yeah, it’s fine,” Rhamina replied stretching, “Hey, what happened after I went to the tarot reading?”
“Well, you sent us a text saying that you were heading back here at around ten and- oh my fuck, Mina, what did you do?” Sophie said before her eyes settled on the girl’s form.
“What?”
“Oh, Mina got a mans!” Kerstin sung as she and Sam smirked at the confused, still groggy seventeen-year-old.
“What the fuck are you guys talking about?” she asked.
“Mina, there’s a fucking hickey on your neck,” Sophie sighed rubbing her temples.
“Wait, wha-what?!” she asked with wide eyes, now fully awake as she went into the bathroom to check the mirror.
And there it was on the left side of her neck, too high to hide with any of her clothes mostly because she only brought tank tops and low cut t-shirts since it was Hawaii.
“How-?! When did this?!-?!” she asked in a high-pitched squeak as she racked her mind only to find the last thing she remembered was the fortune teller from the prom.
‘There’s no way,’ she thought as her face turned an even brighter red.
“Fuck this,” she stated as she quickly changed before flopping face first onto one of the beds in the room.
“So, Mina, who was it?” Sam asked.
“I don’t fucking know,” came her muffled reply, “I don’t remember what happened past me leaving the tarot reading.”
She was partially lying but it was fine for now.
“Wait, if you don’t remember anything… Mina, do your legs or any part of your lower body feel sore?” Kerstin asked sternly.
“What?!” the ravenette asked with wide eyes.
“Mina, this is serious. Someone could have drugged and ra-” “No, I’m not sore. I’m sure nothing like that happened,” Rhamina said, quick to cut off the suggestion that anything that drastic could have happened to her.
“Okay… If you’re sure,” Kerstin replied before turning to enter the bathroom.
“Can you not remember anything past what you already told us?” Sophie asked sitting next to the ravenette.
“Nope, did I even get back to you guys after I came out of the thing?”
“We didn’t see you for the rest of the night,” Sophie said with a sigh, “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah, I’m just tired,” Rhamina yawned before burying her face back into her pillow, “Night.”
When the ravenette drifted off to sleep she dreamt of the full moon. Its slight yellow tinge capturing her eyes.
The ocean reflecting the pale glow of the moon, calling her name.
An island surrounded by water with lush, green vegetation covering most of the landmass.
And she dreamt of a voice, haunting and melodic. The song it sung was filled with sorrow and longing and seemed to be just for her.
It was about noon when the female woke again and she noticed her companions were either on their phones or still asleep.
Sluggishly, Rhamina went into the bathroom to wash her face and brush out her hair which was slightly ruffled from her movement in sleep.
As she looked into the mirror she sighed upon finding the dark purple bruise still there on the left side of her neck.
‘So that actually happened,’ she thought while lightly tracing the mark with her fingers before going into the kitchenette to make herself a cup of tea.
Once the jasmine tea was finished steeping the girl took small sips of it while looking out the window.
The hotel the girls were staying in had a beautiful view of the ocean and what Rhamina saw put a smile on her face as the golden flecks in her eyes sparkled at the shift in light.
A few miles into the water was a small, lush island, the same one that she had seen that morning.
“Hey, Guys,” she called to the other three females who were now awake, “Y’all up for an adventure?”
By three in the afternoon the four girls had also roped Hannah into their plan of going to the island.
“So, we’re spending the night?” Hannah asked as the girls walked to the dock in order to use the boat of Rhamina’s uncle.
“Yep,” the ravenette spoke as she placed her backpack in the bottom of the small motor boat before taking the bags of the others and doing the same, “That’s why I told you to pack like you were camping.”
Rhamina wore a black tank top with faux denim shorts that ended mid thigh and hiking boots. Her hair was tied into a high ponytail then braided before being put through the back of a pokemon themed baseball cap. A pair of sunglasses were on her face and all of her exposed skin was covered in sunscreen.
The other girls dressed similarly but in their own styles to stay safe in nature while avoiding heat stroke.
Two girls sat at each bench while Rhamina stayed at the back to control the engine as the girls enjoyed the wind and ocean.
By four, the girls had tied the boat to make sure it wasn’t going anywhere and had a camp set up near the beach.
They had not explored much and decided to stay a bit to have dinner.
“So, Mina, how did things go for you last night?” Hannah smirked, noticing the mark on the ravenette’s neck.
“I literally have no idea,” she stated as she cracked her back, “I can’t remember shit after my tarot card reading.”
“Really? Abby said she saw you with a cute guy,” Hannah explained restating what her cousin had told her, “Like you were literally clinging onto him. She sent a picture.”
“What? Show me!” Kerstin exclaimed shoving Sophie out of the way as the red-head pulled up her texts.
“Holy shit, Mina, you hoe!” Kerstin said looking at the picture of her sister clinging onto an attractive male’s arm with fingers laced through his as she gazed up at him with a smile.
“What the fuck?!” Rhamina screeched with a look of confusion upon seeing the picture, “I literally don’t remember this shit!”
“Damn, Mina, he’s hot,” Sophie said looking at the way the male smiled down at the ravenette.
“I don’t remember this!”
“Awe, Mina, did you get his number?” Sam asked ignoring the flushed female.
“Okay!” she exclaimed standing up while grabbing her go-pro as the sun began to set, “Let’s go explore!”
“Fuck yeah!” Kerstin, Sam, and Sophie exclaimed.
“Isn’t that a bit dangerous?” Hannah asked begrudgingly standing as well.
“That’s the fun part,” Rhamina chuckled as she strapped the camera to her chest before throwing everyone a flashlight.
After a few hours of exploration the girls were heading back to camp when they all felt a pull in their chest.
“Guys?” Hannah asked as they looked to see the ravenette’s head turn to a certain direction.
“I’m going,” she stated pupils dilating as she began to walk off without turning back.
“Mina,” Sophie called despite feeling the pull as well.
The ravenette’s paused to turn back at the others as her eyes glowed gold in the moonlight and said, “I know you guys feel it too so why should we deny it? We came here for adventure right?”
One by one the females agreed and followed the ravenette as the camera on her chest resumed recording their journey.
As the girls got closer to whatever they were looking for the pull just got stronger and stronger until the entered a stranged looking cave.
There were strange carvings and sculptures littered about, all relating to the ocean and water but what drew everyone’s attention was a wall with the image of a trident.
“What is this place?” Sophie asked mind slightly hazy.
“It looks like a shrine for water deities,” Sam explained what she remembered from random online posts she read a certain ravenette stepped closer to the cavern wall.
In a dazed state Rhamina lifter her right hand to the wall and she leaned forward. As soon as she did so the wall disappeared and her eyes widened in alarm as she began to fall forward with nothing to support her.
Sam and Kerstin who were the closest to her tried to reach out and pull her back up but ended up being dragged down as well.
Sophie and Hannah rushed to peer over the edge and reached to their phones but a force pushed them forward causing them to fall as well.
The drop was about ten meters into a pool of seawater that appeared to be boiling with all the bubbles rising from the liquid but that was not the case at all.
As the girls fell into the water they could barely see anything except for the moonlight with all the bubbles in the water and they could feel themselves changing.
One by one the girls surfaced as the bubbles disappeared and the moon moved away from the opening of the cave above them.
“We’re alive!” Kerstin exclaimed as she brushed her wet hair back.
“Yeah, but what the fuck happened to us?!” Sam exclaimed as she looked down and around to see everyone’s bodies had changed.
Kerstin’s hair was tied up into a ponytail with long bangs left in the front with dark red highlights and her upper body was the same save for her now wearing only black bra and detatched sleeves on her upper arms as well as the red tattoo that wrapped around her stomach and back. She now had a long, dark red tail with brighter red markings and black fins.
Sam also had changed in the fact she now had a dark green tail with dark gold fins and markings. She now wore a black corset top with the same detached sleeves Kerstin had. Her hair was left down.
Hannah now had a golden tail with bright yellow fins and markings. She now wore a black corset top with a fishnet over her right shoulder. Her red hair was left down as it stuck to her.
Sophie had a dark pink tail with dark red markings and light pink fins. She wore a light pink corset top with black poofy sleeves. Her wavy brown hair was left free as she looked at herself.
Rhamina wore a white shell bra laced with white ribbons that continued to wrap around her torso. Her tail was a dark purple and faded to black on the sides with lighter purple spots running up the black parts and her fins were completely black. Her hair was left down and it seemed longer and softer than before.
“I knew you would be able to find this place in time, Rhamina, but I didn’t expect you to bring your friends with you,” a familiar male voice stated.
The girls turned to the wall to see a male with golden brown skin, white fluffy hair, and violet irises in the water with them.
“Asra? What the fuck is going on?” Rhamina asked before looking down into the water with wide eyes, “You’re a fucking siren?!”
“You are now too, Dear,” she smiled softly gesturing at the female’s new form.
“What in the fuck is going on?” Sophie asked as the girls gathered at the edge of the pool farthest from the male.
“Wait, aren’t you the guy Mina was with last night?” Hannah asked recognizing the strange features from the photo.
“Indeed I was,” she said with a mischievous smirk, “It fun time with my new mate.”
“Mate? What the fuck did you to to Mina?!” Kerstin asked as the ravenette’s mind was still processing his words.
“Don’t worry I didn’t go that far,” the male said raising his hands out of the water, “I only marked her as mine is all.”
Immediately the ravenette’s left hand went to her neck where the hickey was as her heart began to pound.
“That was you?” she squealed while looking at the male, “I don’t even remember what happened last night!”
“I’m surprised my song affected you that much,” he said with a smirk as he swam closer, “It just goes to show you were a perfect mate.”
“Hey! Back the fuck off!” Kerstin exclaimed as she and Sam got in front of the ravenette, “Who the hell are you?”
“I’m not going to hurt you, Rhamina,” the male spoke looking past the other females and into the eyes of the ravenette, “You should know that.”
Before the other females could say anything Rhamina rested her hands on their shoulders.
“He’s telling the truth.”
“Mina, you can’t possibly think that,” Hannah said getting closer to the ravenette still a little awkward with the tails, “he’s a siren! They kill humans!”
“Not siren,” Rhamina stated causing the females to look at her with confusion, “Sirena or Sireno since he’s a guy.”
“A what now?” Sophie asked while blinking.
“They’re Filipino merfolk. Their like sirens but if-” she cut herself off as her gaze met the purple irises of the male and she sank into the water till only her eyes were visible.
“If they what, Mina?” Sam asked seriously as she glared over her shoulder back at the male who was now much closer.
“If they fall in love with a human they are said to be tame around them,” she finished before returning back under the water as the male was now right by them.
“True, but now none of you are human,” he spoke.
“Yeah, no shit,” Sam sighed, “So what do we do now? Are we like this forever?”
“No, you will return to your human forms once you dry off but as soon as you get wet,” the male lifted his lavender colored tail as the girls just stared, honestly not that overwhelmed at the news considering they interact with a witch everyday.
“I found my Go-Pro!” Rhamina chirped as she resurfaced holding the water proof camera.
“And my phone!” she continued holding the most recent galaxy phone with a waterproof case.
“Aw, shit my phone!”
“Fuck!”
“Ha! I left mine at the camp!”
As the others went down to collect their devices the male wrapped his arm around the ravenette which Sophie allowed for the time being.
“You got what you wanted right?” he whispered in her ear, “More magic in your life?”
She tensed at the closeness but didn’t push him away but when Sam and Kerstin surfaced… Oh, boy.
“So you’re the person who was in charge of the tarot cards?” Kerstin asked as the group of Sirena were up on a rock near their camp, drying off.
“Yes, my name is Asra Alnazar,” he introduced before turning to the Rhamina, “I almost forgot.”
He reached into a bag he had and pulled out a rose gold ring with diamonds which was designed to look like a tiara.
“Wait, are you fucking serious?” the female asked as he slipped the ring onto her right ring finger.
“Of course, you are my mate after all,” he chirped.
“Speaking of which, what does that mean?” Sophie asked from he spot already having an idea but wanting clarification as she prayed that she was wrong.
“I’m sure you can figure that out,” the male smirked as his arm went around the shoulders of the ravenette whose hair was still dripping, “But she did agree herself you know.”
“Mina?”
“Bitch, I already told you fucks that I don’t remember anything past the tarot reading,” the ravenette huffed as she wrung out her hair which was still really soft, “But even if I didn’t we’re still here now with our gorgeous ass tails.”
“Hey, if we’re Sirena now, do we have the same music powers?” Kerstin asked causing everyone to turn to the male in curiosity.
“Yes,” he chuckled, “With your voices you have the power to not only enchant others but cast various types of magic.”
Rhamina, Sam, and Kerstin looked at each other as Sophie and Hannah watched in horror.
“Guys, no.”
“Chaos Trio, yes,” Rhamina nodded with a slight edge in her voice.
“We shall make the peasants bow before us!” Kerstin cackled as she and the other two joined.
“You do realize we are still in danger correct?” Asra asked in a warning tone.
“Of course,” Rhamina stated, “We weren’t going to do anything big, especially with Sirena Hunters nearby.”
“Sirena Hunters?” Sophie asked as a light glow engulfed the male before he sat on the rock with his legs.
“Yep, they’re exactly what they sound like,” Rhamina said as the same happened to Sam.
Asra went over to hug Rhamina but she stopped him gesturing at her drenched hair.
After about five minutes everyone was already standing except for Rhamina who sat with crossed arms, flopping her tail angrily.
“Mina, What’s wrong?!” Kerstin laughed as she recorded the pouting teenager with the Go-Pro which for whatever reason still had battery, “Are you a sad fishie?”
With a pout the female raised her right hand and water from the ocean behind her floated up before she brought her hand down causing the water to rush at Kerstin and Sam who were laughing, causing them to revert back to their Sirena forms.
“What the fuck fuck was that?!” Sophie exclaimed as she ran away from the water.
“Looks like you’ve discovered your powers, Love,” Asra chuckled as the ravenette regained her legs.
He then walked around the pair on the ground and reached up to help Rhamina down from the rock.
“Fucking make fun of me again,” Rhamina hissed as she picked up her camera.
“Mina, we were joking!” Kerstin whined, “Now we have to wait like another twenty minutes to dry off!”
“Oh trust me we have the time.”
Is the shawl + dress Kirsten wears in your Kirsten Learns a Lesson playthrough available for download anywhere??? It was always my favorite Kirsten outfit! I tried dressing my dolls accordingly so it was considered one of the "Fall outfits" that I'd be excited to dress Kirsten in around the end of September.
I think this has become my most frequently asked question.
Unfortunately, the dress with the shawl is not available publicly and I can't really say if we'll be seeing it in the future. If it is posted, it may also end up look different from the WIP that was shared with me.
However, in the illustrations, Kirsten also wears the red dress without the shawl, sometimes with an apron and sometimes without. When @linzlu updated the Meet Kirsten outfit, she included swatches with both versions of the school dress pattern (one is floral and the other looks like division signs). No shawl, but you'll still get the overall look.
Julian Week Day 4: Blossom.
@thearcanaweek
(Read it here or on AO3)
“You can’t possibly think you’ll find anything useful in there. Those books are nothing but gibberish.” Julian cast a disapproving glance at the witch.
Asra was reclining in a plush chair, his head laid back on the armrest, his legs propped near-vertically against the tall back. His face was buried in a heavy, decorated tome with elaborate symbols etched across its binding.
At first Julian thought the magician had chosen to ignore him - but after a moment, he lowered the tome, just enough to peer out from behind it with twinkling violet eyes.
Julian felt the barest flutter in his stomach as those eyes caught his. It had only been a few days since the witch had arrived at the palace, but already Julian was beginning to find his presence...well, rather distracting.
Asra held his gaze steadily, his eyebrows just slightly raised. “Just because you don’t understand it, doesn’t mean it’s not real.”
“Well, now, I didn’t say it wasn’t real, just that it- ah, it’s- well…” Julian trailed off. He was finding it difficult to hold the magician’s stare, and yet somehow couldn’t bring himself to look away.
“Useless?” Asra finished for him. It was hard to decipher his expression, what with his face mostly hidden behind the book. Of course, it didn’t help much that Julian was rather preoccupied with the way his snow-white eyelashes kissed the tops of his cheeks.
Julian tore his gaze away, shrugging and rubbing the back of his neck. “All I’m saying is I’ve never seen a magic spell bandage a wound or set a broken bone. Medicine is what’s going to stop this plague, not hocus-pocus. Uh...no offense.” He flashed his best grin at the magician in an attempt to offset the criticism.
Asra lowered the book fully, and Julian was rather relieved to see that he didn’t look particularly offended. In fact, there was a bit of a glint in his eye and a small smile on his lips as he stretched and righted himself, then wandered over to the desk where Julian was seated. He set the tome atop the doctor’s scattered pile of books and papers with a heavy thud, splaying it open with one hand.
“Look here. Tell me what you see.”
Julian raised a skeptical eyebrow at the magician, before quirking his lips into a smile. He was quite pretty - what harm could it do to humor him?
He looked down at the book laid before him. On the page was an intricate diagram, surrounded by extensive notes that were punctuated regularly with strange, indecipherable symbols.
“Um, it looks like...a flower, of some sort?” Julian glanced up at Asra quizzically. Besides the unusual symbols, there was nothing in particular that-
Asra placed his other hand on the desk and leaned in. All of a sudden Julian was absolutely, acutely aware of how close they were, the magician’s compact form hovering over him; his shawl hanging loosely off his shoulders and brushing against Julian's coat; the barest hint of a soft floral scent wafting in the air around him.
“Look closer.”
Julian swallowed and obeyed, turning his gaze - with some effort - back to the tome before him. He leaned in closer, his shoulder brushing distractingly against the warmth of Asra’s arm as he moved, and did his best to focus on the page.
And this time, he saw something strange. At the center of the floral diagram, there was a spot of color. A deep, purple hue that he could have sworn wasn’t there before. As he watched, the color began to grow, bleeding across the page like spilled wine. It filled the image, coloring the flower’s petals, and then...
Julian drew in a sharp breath as the color began to bubble and rise, up, up, out of the page. It shimmered aqueously as it took shape, imitating the illustration it sprang from and blooming upwards like a fountain with form.
Julian was familiar with the concept of magic - he knew full well it existed - but he’d never really seen it like this: unfurling right before his eyes, so close he could reach out and touch it. His eyes flicked up to Asra, then back down to the glimmering magic, then to Asra’s hand, still splayed across the book, his fingertips glowing with a warm light.
“You...you’re doing this, aren’t you? Is- is this supposed to impress me?” He was trying, and failing, to sound unaffected, but pushed on valiantly all the same. “It’s hardly...I mean, it’s just a trick, isn’t it? It doesn’t do anything. What is this supposed to accomplish?”
He didn’t give Asra the chance to respond. As he spoke, he reached out toward it, his curiosity more powerful than his doubt. He extended one long finger to poke at the vision before him - and nearly jumped out of his seat as it responded, shooting a trailing vine of liquid light to coil rapidly around his finger, smooth and cool against his skin.
Startled, Julian pulled back, jerking his hand free with a sharp tug.
And that was when he heard Asra laugh. It was a brilliant, carefree sound, chiming through the air like birdsong. Julian looked up at him, embarrassment coloring his cheeks, but couldn’t help but wonder at the sheer expression of joy on the magician’s face.
Asra looked down at him, catching his gaze.
“I think it likes you.”
His violet eyes danced, playful and kind, as he fixed the doctor with a luminous smile.
